Lane Acclaim pieces were mass-produced in the mid-20th century so there are lots to be found, but this is the first time we’ve restored this particular style of surfboard coffee table. Matt fully restored this one, working to capture its original tone and remove lots of water rings and wearing finish. Killer walnut grain, extra, extra long, and those signature dovetail accents make this a showstopper. Did a little website update today and added this one. ✨ Yellow mahogany side table made by Brown Saltman, with a sliding top compartment perfect for storing magazines or electronics out of sight. The cutest little vanity & stool we ever did see. 🥺 Folding three-part mirror, original green wool upholstery on the stool, lots of little drawers - all the best features. I think this would also make an adorable little entryway table or plant stand, which is why I staged it with tons of plants from @thepowerplant.seattle 🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴 We fully cleaned this one and opted not to totally refinish it since the original finish is in good shape. We’ve been fixing up more and more pieces that I genuinely want to keep. It’s one of the hardest parts of this whole thing. Cue this teak sideboard. We’re pretty sure it’s actually a 🍸bar🍸 sideboard. It’s got all the right storage, and a little glass-bottomed cabinet that’s perfect for liquor. I’ve wanted to fill it with prized ceramics because it’s not deep enough for vinyl. You do you, though, because there are lots of possibilities here. Tambour doors and glass. That vintage dark teak color. This thing is just hot. I’m sorry, but it is. You guys surprised me when you voted in our Stories to keep this original plaid upholstery! I was not expecting that at all, but I can totally see how rad it is - like your favorite flannel shirt in chair form. 🧸 Matt completely refinished this chair frame and gave it a slightly darker finish we’ve come to love on these lighter wood frames - this one is likely beech since it was made in Yugoslavia in the 1960s or so. (Swipe 👉🏼 for a couple ‘befores’.) After he was done refinishing it, I replaced the straps to ensure it can support all your lounging for years to come. We also gave the cushions a thorough vacuum and clean so they are ready to go in your cozy reading nook. We love these types of lounge chairs because they are relatively easy to take apart and put back together, making them the perfect chair for a frequent mover. Or, just anyone who wants a quality vintage lounge chair without spending $1k+. When one of our IG followers reached out to see if we’d like to restore this mid century hall tree, we both responded with a “hell yes!” We’d never seen anything like it before. (Ok, maybe I was more excited than Matt was, but that’s probably because a lot of the work was on him. 😬) The mahogany wooden skirt, trim, and cabinet all needed to be refinished, it was missing its umbrella holder and the original tray to catch errant umbrella drips, several of the screws were completely stripped, and there was sticky tape residue all around the perimeter of the wood on the vinyl backing. Matt went to work refinishing and repairing the wooden parts, bringing out the golden luster of the mahogany. And then it sat in our hallway for a while… We had deep-cleaned the tape residue as best as we could, but there was still some staining that wouldn’t come off. I found some fabric, intending to make a quilted band for the bottom, but it didn’t feel right adding a new element to the piece. Then we purchased some vintage mahogany trim @secondusebuildingmaterials and Matt sanded and started to cut it, but it just didn’t look right, either. I tried to find ribbon or woven trim that looked right, but nothing fit. I loved the look of the piece as-is and I really didn’t want to mess it up. This is generally the hardest part of a “creative” restoration project - the problem solving. It’s also often the most fun, but sometimes it takes a few weeks (or months!) to land on an idea that feels right. When our friend @sharptoolsfullheart came over, we showed her and asked what she thought, and she echoed my fear: adding another element would mess up the look. She suggested wood, and somehow that put the whole thing into perspective. Matt found a piece of thin teak, sanded and stained it to better match the original mahogany, and voila! It’s almost like it was there originally. We also thrifted a little white ceramic tray that fits just-so under the umbrella holder that Matt built and attached to the cabinet. As you might’ve guessed from the reel I made, I’d really like to keep this one - I know one of you will have the perfect home for it. 🥲 36”W x 72”H x 10.5”D ($825 +tax)
