Vintage Heywood Wakefield Wishbone Dining Table & Chairs Set

We have seen a lot of beautiful dining sets since we’ve been doing this, and I think we’re both often partial to Danish teak ones. There’s something about the sexy legs and solid hardwood on this set, though, that’s just totally alluring. We’re fairly certain that this set is solid maple, which makes it an earlier Heywood Wakefield set (likely from the 1950s), since they switched to solid birch for their later tables and chairs.

Not only is this set sexy as hell, it’s also renewably functional. Since its solid wood, the table can be refinished many, many times without issue - it’s likely that it had already been refinished at least once before it came to us. This makes it a great set for families with kiddos - if they draw on the table or leave watermarks, you can have it refinished when they’re old enough to take better care of it.

We completely refinished this table and gave it a durable lacquer finish (one ‘before’ at the end). We also deep cleaned the chairs and then gave them new foam and reupholstered them in a lush black naugahyde that mimics the look and feel of leather pretty closely.

The table is crazy versatile - it has two drop leaf “wings” that prop open with cool fold out solid wood pieces, and then one additional leaf, making it possible to seat anywhere from 2-8 or more folks.
